"In loving memory of Caesar the bulldog, official mascot of 4th Battalion (A Company) New Zealand Rifle Brigade, who served in the First World War and died in action. A trained Red Cross dog, Caesar helped save the lives of wounded soldiers on the battlefield. Caesar's official collar, which he wore when he led the grand parade down Queen Street before the Brigade left New Zealand, is held at the Auckland War Memorial Museum."
